YAG Laser by Cutera Xeo

The YAG laser and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL’s) are the preferred modalities used for nonablative rejuvenation of skin. Selective laser applications generate an inflammatory type reaction, resulting in a healing process that builds collagen under the skin and strengthens and tightens tissues. The desired results are achieved when deep heating of the dermis occurs, without causing permanent skin damage. Laser nonablative rejuvenation involves fewer risks and complications than ablative skin resurfacing. In addition, nonablative rejuvenation has the advantage of less “down-time,” and pain.

The Cutera Xeo YAG laser is also preferred for treating facial telangiectasias, fine leg telangiectasias, spider leg veins, and port wine stain vascular malformations. By selective application, the laser targets the pigmented hemoglobin or oxyhemoglobin within these vascular malformations resulting in reduction and gradual fading by processes known as photothermolysis and photocoagulation. These selective applications minimize the risk of collateral damage to the surrounding tissues. For further skin protection against injury, the skin is cooled during and after treatment (since the melanin in skin and hair compete with the oxyhemoglobin for absorption of energy). Since these vascular lesions or malformations are being heated, there is the possibility of side effects such as blistering, scarring, and crusting. Permanent hair removal is also a possible side effect that must be addressed.

CoolGlide Excel by Cutera
The 1064nm Excel has variable “on-the-fly” spot sizes 3, 5, 7, and 10mm. The pulse structure is absolutely perfect. A 12mm spot would be nice when doing large anatomical areas, but this is still a superior long pulsed Nd:YAG for darker skin types.

The Excel model allows shorter pulses than the CoolGlide Classic, and this helps when treating finer brown hair which presents less of a target for the Nd:YAG. The Excel is also an excellent darker skin types.
